There's been a lot of noise lately about Dell and the other big PC
companies selling Linux boxes. So I set out to see how many of the smaller
companies I could find that sell Linux systems. After looking through the
web pages of about forty smaller system integrators, I found a few that
indeed list Linux as on of the OSes you can choose on your new computer.
Note that none of these companies claim any expertise at installing
Linux, so it's still quite likely you'll wind up with hardware inside of
your machine that isn't Linux compatible.
Another interesting point is that more and more manufacturers are
listing "no operating system -$69" as an option in their configurator cgi
scripts. The Microsoft tax is finally starting to go away.
