"Microsoft and Corel have both come to Comdex West promoting new operating system offerings. Corel's Linux was released in November - just in time for the premier Comdex event in Las Vegas. Since that time, about 450,000 people have logged on to the company's website to download Corel Linux. Meantime, Microsoft promises it will ship Windows 2000 by the end of February. Both companies have just released reports of profitable quarters, but the similarities between them end there."

"Comdex West opened in Vancouver, BC today..."

"This year, Comdex West for the first time features a Linux pavilion, comprising a cluster of companies servicing the fast growing market segment."

"Line-ups were the prevailing feature at the Stormix Technologies and Linuxcare exhibits."

"Two booths drawing the largest crowds were Microsoft and Corel [T.COR]. Both software makers held well-rehearsed demonstrations featuring their product lines at 30-minute intervals. Demos at Corel took place under a banner that read, "software for the creative soul."

"Corel's CEO, Michael Cowpland, was in attendance today, and was the featured guest on a panel to discuss the Linux operating system."

Complete story.
