BW: Network ICE Offers First Intrusion Detection System for Linux
May 8, 2000, 23 :40 UTC (6 Talkback[s]) (5765 reads)

"Network ICE, a leading provider of corporate and consumer security solutions, today announced a milestone in Internet security: BlackICE Agent for Linux, the first commercial intrusion detection system for the Linux platform. BlackICE Agent for Linux detects attacks, determines the intruder's identity and reports to Network ICE's centralized management console, ICEcap(TM)- all in real time. Like BlackICE Agent for Windows, BlackICE Agent for Linux delivers centrally managed intrusion detection technology to servers, desktops, and notebooks, inside or outside the firewall, all centrally managed through the ICEcap manager. BlackICE Agent for Linux can inspect every packet of data, even at 100% network utilization of a 100MB/s segment. BlackICE Agent for Linux is easy to use and deploy with no disruption to system performance during install and minimal configuration required."

"The Linux market cannot be ignored," said Matt Kovar, Program Manager, E-Networks & Broadband Access, Yankee Group. "Linux systems comprise over thirty percent of all Web servers in use today. Any company employing Linux, especially major Web site operators, will find management of local and remote systems, the ability to keep up with high network loads and enterprise scalability of BlackICE Agent for Linux a compelling value proposition."

"When it comes to securing the corporate network, our customers are looking for awareness and control," said Greg Gilliom, Chief Executive Officer, Network ICE. "By adding support to the Linux platform, we give our customers increased protection against attacks on their network and more flexibility in the number and type of systems defended by BlackICE agents. We strongly feel that a security product should not limit a company's choice on which platforms they use for deploying e-business solutions."
