"Next to interviews with famous kernel hackers like Rik van Riel calling Linus funny names , the recent level of tension on the Linux kernel mailing list indicates that the core developers are growing unsatisfied with how Linus is handling things.

In fact, if anything the 2.4 kernel series has so far shown a far greater ratio of embarrassing bugs, misbehaviours and sudden changes of direction than any of the previous Linux kernel series. The big VM fiasco in 2.4 really showed how erratic and opaque the decision making process of Linus Torvalds really is. For all his superb engineering capabilities, the question is starting to come up if he is also capable of handling the single most complex distributed project in mankind, Linux.

As a first reaction, many are now maintaining their own boutique kernels. Michael Cohen has his mc tree, Rik has his own tree, then you have the aa (Arcangeli) ac (Cox) and many more trees. Don't know what to do this week-end? Start your own tree!"
