Dateline March 20, 2002 - Dallas - Today, Linux advocate, Bynari Inc. announced its second recent breakthrough in the quest to unplug Enterprises from Microsoft Exchange. InsightClient 2.9 for Linux and Solaris allows non-Windows desktops to work with Outlook through the server. The release of InsightClient 2.9 follows the recent news of Bynari's Exchange Client Extension, which lets Outlook users to move from Exchange to IMAP servers while retaining Outlook's native components. InsightClient provides the Linux desktop with server side calendaring, meeting management and user level shared personal folders on Linux and UNIX desktops. Additionally, InsightClient shares its calendars with all versions of Outlook in either an Exchange network or on Bynari's InsightServer 3.0. "As far as I can tell, connecting Outlook to an IMAP server isn't earth shattering," says Tom Adelstein, CTO of Bynari. "Outlook has that capability built in. But emulating the availability of group scheduling at the same time as having corporate email is unusual because you're basically restoring MAPI functionality without MAPI transports. "While our competitors ready expensive and proprietary plugins and Calendar servers which work with a limited set of platforms, InsightClient has no cost associated with it and can work with any version of Outlook." Recently, Bynari also released a free version of its Email Server, which runs on Intel versions of Red Hat Linux 7.2. This free server allows IT Departments to test and/or use Linux, Open Source releases of IMAP, POP3, SMTP and LDAP against Outlook with Bynari's Client Extension and the Linux and Solaris implementations of Bynari's InsightClient. "With the imminent release of MS(r) Office compatible suites, InsightClient can complete the tool set knowledge workers use to function in Windows operating environments," says Adelstein. "Businesses already know the merits of moving to Linux. We've all just been waiting for the right applications. Now, InsightClient gives us the main application for which we've waited." InsightClient 2.9, a 14-day functional demo of InsightConnector and Bynari's free Email Server can be found on the Company's web site . Bynari requires registration for download at their home site. "While we don't use the registration information except for internal purposes," says Adelstein, "we do require it because our partners use this site to set up in-house pilots. If you don't want to register and I understand that, you can still find our free downloads available across the Internet in a few days."
