PR: Red Hat Launches New Channels to Support Education
May 7, 2002, 11 :00 UTC (1 Talkback[s]) (6437 reads)

RALEIGH, N.C.--Red Hat, Inc. has announced the Red Hat Network Education Channels, designed to support students and educators with access to the Red Hat Linux 7.3 operating system via Red Hat Network. Red Hat Linux 7.3 is a highly configurable operating system (OS) designed to deliver what educational institutions need for flexible Internet-based computing. These channels will ease and accelerate the adoption of open source software within the education community nationwide.

Red Hat will offer two channels:

  • The Educational Channel will be tailored for teachers and IS administrators, as well as high school and university students.
  • The K-12 Linux Terminal Server Project Channel will enable K-12 teachers and IS administrators to set up computer science labs with an Open Lab architecture, which combines affordable open source software with thin client hardware, reducing maintenance and hardware costs for schools.

Both channels provide free Red Hat Network access for one machine. More information on the Red Hat Network Education Channels and subscription information can be found at http://rhn.redhat.com/info/education/.

Red Hat Network delivers fine-grained management and control of Red Hat Linux-based systems, regardless of how many are deployed. Red Hat Network represents the accumulation of Red Hat Linux technology and know-how, optimally packaged, delivered and installed on each system. Currently, there are more than 500,000 systems subscribed to Red Hat Network for software updates for their Red Hat Linux systems.
