Lindows.com: LindowsOS 2.0 Released
Sep 18, 2002, 22 :00 UTC (14 Talkback[s]) (12572 reads)

Lindows.com, Inc. announced today the release of LindowsOS 2.0, available now to Lindows.com Insiders.

"LindowsOS 2.O is the most significant product announcement we've had to date,” said Michael Robertson, chief executive officer of Lindows.com, Inc. “LindowsOS 2.0 is the result of a collaboration of forward thinking companies and their resources, along with Lindows.com Insiders , and the Linux community, all of which have the common goal of providing choice on the desktop. What this means for customers is that now there is an even easier-to-use, super affordable choice for computer users.”

Walmart.com customers who’ve purchased LindowsOS computers, ranging from $199 to $599, will be able to Click-N-Run LindowsOS 2.0 at no charge.

The first thing users will notice is the sharp, new, graphical user interface. The set up is not only esthetically pleasing, it’s also highly functional. LindowsOS 2.0 offers practicality along with the good looks. With companies such as HP onboard, LindowsOS now has an easy-to-setup support for more than 800 printers from low-cost inkjets to color laser printers. LindowsOS 2.0 also has a scan feature which will find all the printers on a corporate network. Even those on a Microsoft network can use print servers in a standard fashion.

LindowsOS 2.0 has gained ground in many areas including: an improved email client and web browser. Users can also take advantage of "tabbed browsing" and other features such as the “pop-up” blocking feature. Desktop controls have seen a host of improvements, including the ability to adjust the monitor resolution.

Other LindowsOS 2.0 enhancements include: Laptop power management and battery controls. Users can configure WIFI (wireless cards) and reap the rewards of improved networking. Users in corporate environments or even at home with multiple computers may use Microsoft Windows file servers. Now it's a point-and-click experience to find, browse and connect to data shares.
