Besides the tax deductions (I think the donations total less than the tax savings and interest earned) and all the usual suspects, I can see how Gates might get wealthier fast.
[Just outside Redmond headquarters, Gates is about to give a 2x4 cardboard check to the We Love Bill Gates Charity] ... Here I have a $10 million donation for you to spend on medicine for XXX and on research for XXX. [flash flash, smiles for camara] Oh, wow! You mean I own the only small pharm co in the area that works on XXX? [flash flash] Wow. Just my luck, but I am sure you will spend this donation in whatever way YOU think is worthwhile. And next year you just might have 20 million more for helping all of those kids. Spend wisely. [flash flash flash flash]
[Meanwhile on Wall Street] Hey, check out that up and comer from Washington. Their growth rate is outstanding even for a biotech. Whoever owns that baby is going to be rich when they go public (naturally, as long as they grease us boys' Christmas stockings).
