It seems more bloggers are trying to use SJVN's page hit model to drum up readers. This latest drive-by gives a selective rendition of what Jason Harris said. Here is his summary of his posting, which many KDE4 antagonists seem to ignore: I'm happy to see lots of people using our software, and I hope they find it useful and enjoyable. But in terms of what we *need* for the continued vitality of the project? We need contributors, not users. Jason's point is well taken. Users who do not CONTRIBUTE do nothing to insure the long term survivability of KDE4. It doesn't matter if thousand or a million people use KDE4. If users don't become contributors then KDE4 will die. That is also true of GNOME, or any of the 300+ distros. Worse yet are users whose ONLY contribution appears to be criticism based on either personal opinion or ignorance. ("Gee, I hate KDE4 because I don't like the new menus" they whine in the blogs, instead of merely right clicking on the menu and choosing the Classic menu from the pop up dialog.) A whining user is worse than no user at all because they can discourage someone from becoming a contributor. So, basically, IF you don't like KDE4 then don't use it. If you use it and want to make a difference then CONTRIBUTE bug reports, help with documentation, or donate $$$. If you are just going to use KDE4 and then WHINE in the blogs about your experience, do us all a big favor and SHUT UP. Use GNOME, or ICE, or WindowMaker, or TWM95, or one of the 20 or so other desktops and whine about them. --- GreyGeek
