It seems that a lot of large organisations still have a fear of open source - even organisations that are already big users. A European CIO at engineering giant General Electric (GE) has warned that open source is risky and should be kept to internal "playground" uses - even though the company is actually deploying Linux for healthcare platforms. Last week, when the European Commission announced the Malmo declaration on e-government - which should provide a level playing field for open source - EC vice president Siim Kallas warned that open source software might have security risks.
