Washington Post: Microsoft Witness Makes a Concession

“Microsoft Corp.’s first witness at its antitrust trial said
under tense questioning by a government lawyer yesterday that
personal computer manufacturers do not currently have a viable
alternative…”

“He asserted that two operating systems, one called Linux and
another developed by the firm Be Inc., could one day become popular
enough to topple Windows. That threat, the witness maintained,
means that Microsoft does not have the sort of long-term market
clout to which antitrust laws apply.”
