“No software vendor, established or in start-up mode, wants to
find itself caught without a Utility Computing offering. Even those
without one (like Computer Associates, Sun, Red Hat, Novell and
BMC) try hard to land some of the lucrative deals and build their
solutions as they go, thorugh either custom development or on the
spot acquisitions. A lot of M&A results from the impetus to
have a comprehensive and cohesive solution framework. Customers
switching to the Utility Computing model have basic requirements
that are common among most of the bigger organizations:

  • “Need to cope with the high number of assets
  • “Need to increase asset utilization
  • “Need to make assets available around the clock…”
