Submitted by the Orkas project team for editorial consideration. Orkas is an MIT-licensed, local-first desktop AI workforce: a Commander coordinates specialist agents through one chat. Release v2026.9.22 refreshes entry points for common work and local coding assistants and removes conversation sampling and nonessential analytics from the open build. Linux users currently run Orkas from source; this is not a Linux binary package announcement. macOS and Windows installers are available. The open-source edition is free; model-provider costs and optional managed services are separate. Local-first describes default device storage, not guaranteed offline inference.
