Adrian Bunk: Packages to Run kernel 2.4.x on Debian Potato

Debian 2.2 (Potato) users may want to check out this guide to
running the 2.4 kernel on their machines. Adrian Bunk has provided
an overview on the issues involved, as well as a line to add to
/etc/apt/sources.list to ease installation.

From Adrian’s page:

“Please consider the following before you install these

  • These are packages taken from unstable recompiled on potato.
You can’t expect that they are as stable as the packages in potato
and although I’ll try my best I can’t garuantee anything.
  • When you upgrade modutils you can no longer run a modular 2.0.x
  • I provide the sources I built the packages from but don’t
expect every package to compile out-of-the-box: I had to do some
special tricks to get some of them compiled on potato.
  • Some packages you’ll perhaps need aren’t yet included because
some bugs need to be fixed before I’ll include them:

    • devfsd
    • isdnutils
    • lvm
    • powertweak”
