The MediaGX is a motherboard/video card/cpu combination from
Cyrix. Alan Cox reports that it now runs great with his latest ac
kernel and XFree86 3.3.3.

Alan Cox writes in his diary:

“The great X adventure. I upgraded to XFree86 3.3.3 since it
supports the SiS 5598 and the Cyrix MediaGX. The 5598 driver turns
out not to cope with having a scsi controller on the PCI bus –
causing display flicker and other mess (it uses main memory for
video).”

“The MediaGX pretty much works perfectly with 3.3.3. Im now
using that as the console machine. I tried sticking 2.1.131ac* on
it – bang. About two hours later I discoverd the MediaGX time stamp
register has certain Tardis like properties and disabled it in the
kernel. End of problem.”
