Another Linux device company acquired

“The deal is the second this year to shake up the
embedded Linux OS, tools, and service market. The first came this
May, when Intel acquired Wind River Systems for $884M. Following
Wind River’s lead, MontaVista says that after the acquisition, it
will retain its brand name, and continue to operate independently.

“Who is Cavium? Cavium is best-known for multi-core networking
processors based on a custom derivative of the MIPS64 architecture.
It’s flagship Octeon processor family scales from single-core to
16-core models, with software compatibility across the range. Since
networks come in all shapes and sizes, that’s a big selling
point.”
