“This week’s LinuxWorld conference in the US is expected to see
more enterprise software developers announcing Linux ports, pushing
the popular open source operating system further into the
mainstream.”

“In one of the most significant announcements yet, ERP giant SAP
is poised to outline plans for its own Linux product. Full details
won’t be issued until the CeBIT trade show later this month”

“Some enterprise software firms are concerned about support
issues which could arise due to the ease with which Linux
installations can be modified , but SAP appears unconcerned. “After
extensive testing inhouse and discussions with our partners and
customers, we are confident that Linux meets our standards,” SAP
CEO Hasso Plattner said.”

“SAP is unlikely, however, to issue the product in the open
source format seen by many Linux stalwarts as a de rigeur part of
commitment to the platform. In January, Lotus announced plans for a
Linux version of Notes, but excited comment when it said only
‘closed’ commercial versions of the Domino server would be
released”
