With a graphically and acoustically impressive introductory
sequence, one harbors only the best premonitions for this sequel to
Myth.
Overlaid graphics give way to great shadow effects,
inspiring crescendos arise from the orchestrally-carried
soundtrack, and an eerie and morbidly magnetic storyline leave even
the most cynical gameplayer slobbering on the keyboard: while the
circuits are shorting from comprehensive saliva saturation, the
game loads, and (sigh) sets up for a letdown worse than….”

“Before the berating begins, however, I must adhere to the
adage: “If you can’t say anything nice, don’t say it all…” Well,
have I made a concerted effort yet? I will extoll one of Myth II’s
most extraordinary (and redeeming) virtues: a fantastic integration
and display of camera angles, infinitely manipulable it seems with
a flick of the mouse….”

“Let’s start with the opening scene, a well-illustrated field
with scattered trees and eons of traversable space laid out for
exploration by your merry band of warriors, archers, and a couple
of dwarves whose utility will demonstrate itself later in the game
(the ability to cast invisibility spells gains these little
creatures access to places the bumbling warrior may not…). Moving
the mouse, as mentioned before, sends the camera angle careening
all around, affording quite an authentic panorama of your
surroundings. At the center of this impressive layout, you notice,
are some figures resembling-what’s this? One’s holding a sword,
another a bow and arrow it seems, and a couple of half-size
figures, qualifying them only as dwarves-wait, is this your
party?…”
