“VistaSource, Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Applix, Inc.
(NASDAQ: APLX) announced today an agreement with Comdisco (NYSE:
CDO), a leading provider of global technology services, to offer a
total Linux desktop solution. Comdisco will offer a Linux
option for its line of refurbished PCs, featuring VistaSource’s
Applixware Office 5.0 for Linux running on top of Red Hat Linux.
The end result is a low-cost, high-value solution for non-profit
organizations, K-12 education providers, and small businesses.

This allows organizations to use a technology solution that
provides value by increasing the technology-per
dollar-quotion.”

“Through its refurbished technology solutions program, Comdisco
helps customers make the most efficient use of technology while
minimizing their cost of computing. Comdisco is vendor-independent
and offers refurbished desktop and laptop computers from major
manufacturers including Compaq, Dell, Toshiba, IBM, and
Hewlett-Packard. Each PC is refurbished in a facility where the
documentation procedures have to meet ISO-9002 quality assurance
standards. Each component is thoroughly tested prior to shipment.
Providing further value, Comdisco pre-installs and configures an
`image’ containing the operating system, unique settings and
applications.”

“Our mission is to deliver the promise of technololgy to select
market segments by providing the most cost effective solutions
available,” said Tom Kunkel, Comdisco Assistant Vice President.
“Economically, the lower licensing cost of the Linux solution
enables schools, non-profit organizations and small companies to
acquire more technology for their dollar. Lower memory requirements
and a smaller memory footprint allows Applixware to provide
excellent performance on our refurbished tier-one machines. This
powerful combination results in a reduced total cost of
computing.”
