“For the first time the popular open-source Linux(R) operating
system (OS) will be staking a claim for embedded systems
developers’ attention at the Embedded Systems Conference Fall,
Sept. 26-30, 1999, at the San Jose Convention Center.”

“Leading the embedded Linux charge is Silicon Valley-based
start-up MontaVista Software Inc. MontaVista is tailoring Linux to
meet embedded OS demands for compact size, high reliability and
wide availability for microprocessors, boards, bus architectures
and device drivers.”

“The company’s flagship product is Hard Hat(TM) Linux, a
standard off-the-shelf binary distribution of Linux for x86 and
PowerPC(TM) architectures. It will be demonstrated on CompactPCI(R)
and single-board computer (SBC) platforms at the Embedded Systems
Show in the booths of MontaVista’s partners: Force Computers Inc.
(booth 1422), Ziatech Corp. (booth 1802) and WinSystems Inc. (booth
2039).”

Linux and the open-source software development model has
enough force to shake the fundamentals of the way we’ve been
operating for the past 25 years
,” says MontaVista Software
President and CEO Jim Ready, an acclaimed pioneer of real-time
operating systems. “From servers to the desktop and now embedded
systems, Linux can unify the fragmented OS market. For the first
time embedded developers can be part of the mainstream of OS
technology.”
