“MontaVista, Inc., developer of the Hard Hat Linux operating
system for embedded applications, today announced its continued
expansion of operations into Asia. Naming Hitoshi Arima as general
manager of its Japan operations in Tokyo, MontaVista has
established its direct presence in Japan.”

“Historically, the Japanese embedded systems market has had a
tightly linked supply chain. Our Tokyo office affords us a
front-line opportunity to help meet rapidly growing market demand
for complete open-source solutions,” said Jim Ready, CEO of
MontaVista. “This move, in conjunction with our participation
in Embedded Linux Consortium of Japan, demonstrates our commitment
to bringing the benefits of open-source Linux to the Asian
markets.”

“In his new position as general manager, Arima will assume
day-to-day responsibilities for MontaVista’s Japan operations while
reporting to Patrice Commune, vice president of international
sales. Arima will focus on developing the company’s Asia-Pacific
organization and support infrastructure that is expected to grow
rapidly to more than 20 people.”
