BW: New Sponsors Jump Into Collab.Net’s sourceXchange

Collab.Net announced today that Novell, Ricoh, Galactic
Marketing, Sparks.com, and Walnut Creek CDROM have placed Request
for Proposals (RFPs) into sourceXchange, a marketplace for tapping
into the open source community’s talent and expertise.
These
diverse projects–including Java API development, an application to
simplify XML coding, the development of telephony open source
standard APIs, the extension of the Apache LDAP module to interface
with enterprise level network directory services, and a graphical
tool for developing work flow systems–exemplify the corporate
world’s increasing use of open source software development.”

“The submission of the RFPs by these companies validates the
whole model behind what we’re building here with sourceXchange,”
said Brian Behlendorf, Collab.Net’s co-founder and CTO. “I think
the 3200 developers we’ve signed up over the last few months will
find these projects quite interesting, both from a technology
standpoint and a financial standpoint. They also really demonstrate
the breadth of the impact that open source can have on the wider
software industry, and how sourceXchange can be used to accomplish
business-critical software development. This is just the
start.”

“Bill Portelli, Collab.Net’s President and CEO noted,
“Collab.Net is helping each of these companies to use open source
development processes to address their internal requirements and
the needs of their customers, in a way that is just not possible
using proprietary software. Using open source development, these
corporations have increased flexibility to make their organizations
more efficient, are providing higher levels of service to their
customers, are empowering their customers to be more self
sufficient, and are creating new market opportunities for anyone
connected with open source.”
