“Evans Marketing Services today announced the immediate
availability of a special report on Open Source Software by analyst
Eugene Kim….”

“Among the findings examined by Kim are an increase in
developers expecting to release apps for Linux within the next
year. In the current study, over 39% replied positively when asked
if they expect to write an app for Linux in the next year. This is
up from the 35% who replied positively six months ago. Another
increase was in the number of software developers who believe it’s
feasible for a commercial software company to survive shipping free
software. Last Spring 55% of developers replied positively, but in
October this number was up to more than two-thirds.”

“One indisputable conclusion from the data and analysis is that
there is a growing interest in open source software,” said Eugene
Kim, author of the special report. But he warns that “…the
greatest current inhibitor to the growth of open source is the
confusion over the various open source licenses.” Kim analyses the
reactions of developers to the various open source licenses,
platforms and tools and shows a growing interest in and acceptance
of open source software.”
