BW: Pogo Linux Announces New Desktop Running Windows and Linux Simultaneously…

“Pogo Linux today announced that it has finalized an
agreement with VMware, Inc. to bundle and preconfigure VMware’s
desktop software with a Pogo Linux desktop system.”

“The new offering, appropriately named the “Winux System”, will
allow traditional Windows users to enjoy the power and stability of
Linux on the desktop without sacrificing the convenience and
popularity of Windows applications. The system is based on the
Intel (Nasdaq:INTC) Pentium 3 architecture and RedHat’s
(Nasdaq:RHAT) Linux distribution, and, using VMware’s software,
will allow the user to run Microsoft Windows 98 in a VMware virtual
machine.”

“The Winux computer will enable the user to run traditional
Windows applications such as Microsoft Office while using Linux at
the same time. These systems are very attractive to Windows users
who have hesitated in converting to Linux because of the lack of
commercial Linux software. Winux systems will also offer better
stability to Windows users because if Windows crashes in a VMware
virtual machine, it will not crash the entire computer. In that
scenario, the user simply reboots the VMware virtual machine and
continues to work in Windows.”
