“Progress Software…a leading supplier of application
development, deployment and management products, announced today
that it is shipping its market leading embedded database and other
deployment products on the Linux operating system. Providing a
Linux version of the No.1 embedded database will allow Progress
Software’s Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and end-user
customers to port more than 5,000 business applications to this
popular operating system….

“Progress-based applications lead in the mid-market because of
our proven low total cost of ownership and scalability,” said Dave
Ireland, vice president and general manager, Progress Software. “As
the popularity of Linux continues to grow, the combination of
Progress technologies and the 5,000 business applications provided
by our ISV partners are well positioned to meet the needs of this
rapidly expanding market.”

“According to International Data Corp., Linux is the fastest
growing operating system on the market today. The firm predicts
that commercial Linux shipments will rise at a compounded annual
growth rate of 25 percent, compared with 10 percent and 12 percent,
respectively, for other client and server operating systems.
Progress Software ISVs deploy annually more than $2 billion in
Progress Software-based applications that answer diverse business
and industry-specific requirements.”
