“Sun Microsystems announced today that its Free Solaris
Program(SM) has shipped more than 100,000 copies of the Solaris
Operating Environment during the first nine months.”

“Sun also announced that membership in the Solaris Developer
Connection(SM) program has increased more than 200 percent with
Windows and Linux developers making up the majority of new Free
Solaris licensees. Due to the positive response, Sun will expand
the program to include the Japanese version of Solaris and will
extend the Free Solaris Program indefinitely.”

“…through our involvement with the open source community, we
are making it easier to run Linux applications unmodified on
Solaris and to develop applications that are compatible across both
platforms. Free Solaris is further evidence that Sun’s
industry-leading software technologies are enabling developers to
‘.COM’ applications for the Net economy.”
