“SWsoft, an advanced software development company which offers
broad range of software development services, announced the beta
release of ODBC driver for Btrieve based on the popular MySQL
(www.mysql.com 😉 database engine.

“The driver extends SWsoft’s product line of add-on products
for Btrieve started with earlier release of OLEDB provider for
Btrieve. … The driver also provides a way for Btrieve users to
use MySQL engine without any changes to existing data files.

“The SWsoft’s decision to use MySQL for developing its Btrieve ODBC
driver signifies the popularity of MySQL engine and gives Btrieve
users a freedom to choose a relational engine that best suits their
needs without making significant investments,” said Monty Widenius,
project leader on MySQL.”

“SWsoft and MySQL also announced joint plans to develop library
version of MySQL engine. “Library version of MySQL will allow
software developers to embed MySQL into their application and add
reliability and performance to their applications,” said Stanislav
Protassov, Director of Engineering at SWsoft. In addition to
library version of MySQL, SWsoft will also develop OLEDB provider
for MySQL to be distributed under open-source GPL license. The
provider will be based on Btrieve OLEDB provider developed by
SWsoft and used by hundreds developers worldwide. The target
release for beta of the product is August 2000.”
