BW: VERITAS Software Unveils Linux Strategy and Roadmap

“VERITAS…the industry’s leading enterprise-class application
storage management software provider, today disclosed its Linux
Strategy and Roadmap, demonstrating a commitment to support
heterogeneous enterprise environments that include the Linux
platform. The Company announced that as part of the VERITAS
Software Linux Roadmap, VERITAS Volume Manager(TM), VERITAS File
System(TM), VERITAS Cluster Server(TM) and VERITAS NetBackup(TM)
server will be ported to Linux during 2000. VERITAS Software also
unveiled its open-source strategy.”

“Linux is one of the important new operating system platforms in
the industry today,” said Fred van den Bosch, executive vice
president of engineering, VERITAS Software. “By adopting Linux
as a strategic new operating environment, we demonstrate our
commitment to a heterogeneous system strategy and our ability to
offer our solutions across the major platforms.

“IDC predicts that by 2003, Linux servers will account for
approximately 24 percent of worldwide server appliance revenue,
worth close to $4 billion. Linux appliance servers are estimated to
account for 14 percent of shipments or approximately 1.1 million
units.”
