“My image collection varies in size from small images, barely
bigger than your average desktop icon, to huge images that can
barely fit on screen. In XWindows, the size differences can be a
pain. The small images are barely viewable, and the large ones
scroll off the screen.”

filled the void left by the unknown DOS program.

“When you compile the source, assuming you have the requisite
files (repeat the mantra “Read the manual”) it compiles without a
hitch. The only problem I encountered was when I installed it. It
complained that it couldn’t find something, I think it was the
manual pages, so I guess I’m “flying blind”. No big deal.”
