“About 90 percent of the world’s personal computers run some
version of Windows. Even the iMac comes with preinstalled Microsoft
applications such as Internet Explorer and Outlook.

“But recently, it has begun to look as though Microsoft might
finally have some competition. Is it enough to make a real
difference? We don’t think so.

“Linux on the Desktop? Not Likely. We’ve heard an awful lot
about Linux, the open-source operating system based on Unix. It’s
fast and efficient, it’s got thousands of programmers posting free
bug fixes online, and it’s free. But we say it’s too soon to
suggest that Linux will crush Microsoft.”
