CNET News.com: Corel’s Linux beta to debut by August

“Corel will release a beta of its forthcoming Linux software by
August 10, a step that will jump start the company’s challenge to
Microsoft’s desktop dominance, CEO Michael Cowpland said at Corel’s
annual shareholders meeting yesterday.”

“Linux, running on ultracheap computers and modified by Corel to
be more user friendly, will help Corel compete with Microsoft,
Cowpland said. Corel is also working on Linux versions of its
office suite.”

“Corel faces stiff competition from those who already sell
Linux, and the situation is complicated by the fact that anyone who
wants can download Linux for free.”
