“Under the agreement announced today, both companies said in a
statement that AT&T will use Microsoft software in its
television set-top boxes and also said they will work together to
showcase new digital cable services in two U.S. cities.

“Ma Bell said it will increase its use of Microsoft’s Windows CE
operating system software in set-top devices from its current
license of 5 million to cover an additional 2.5 to 5 million
set-top devices, under the deal.”

“In addition, the two companies said that AT&T agreed it
will also license Microsoft client/server software that supports a
range of digital services, such as email and interactive television
entertainment. The two companies said they plan to deploy
Microsoft’s television software in two cities by the second quarter
of next year.”
