No-charge download becomes third-highest download on
CNET this week.
OTTAWA, Canada – December 18,1998 – There were 82,925 attempts
by Linux enthusiasts at obtaining the no-charge download of
Corel® WordPerfect® 8 for Linux® from CNET’s
Download.com site [www.download.com] from the moment the
site went live at noon eastern time on December 17.
“This is tremendous validation of our Linux strategy,” said
Corel president and chief executive officer Michael Cowpland. “We
have proven that the Linux community wants access to mainstream
applications such as WordPerfect 8 and we intend to deliver
them.”
CNET’s Download.com will host the WordPerfect 8 for Linux
download exclusively until Dec. 22. You can also reach it through

After December 22, a listing of additional sites will be
available at [http://linux.corel.com].
The shrinkwrapped version of Corel WordPerfect 8 for Linux
Personal Edition and the Corel WordPerfect 8 Server Edition for
Linux and UNIX® are scheduled to be available through regular
retail channels in the next couple of weeks.
