CRN: Linux 3.0 And Futures Detailed At Comdex

“While the industry waits for Windows 2000, Linux backers Monday
detailed upcoming futures for their own operating system
kernel….”

The next-generation Linux 3.0 kernel will offer improved
support for smaller devices such as the PalmPilot and other PDA
devices and, on the other extreme, better support for large-scale
devices and systems such as Intel Corp.’s Xeon systems, Quinlan
said.

“Sources at the show noted that Torvalds, the creator and
director of the Linux kernel, is expected to discuss Linux futures
and disclose product plans for Transmeta, a microprocessor start-up
that has yet to ship product, at his Comdex keynote later
Monday.”
