CRN: PDAs Need Hand-Holding

“Itty-bitty handhelds are big, big, big with consumers. But they
still need to better penetrate the business market.”

“Toward that end, software vendors are developing or improving
mobile enterprise applications. For one, Sybase Inc. is
expected to unveil today an upgrade to its mobile database that
will include Linux support and broader synchronization
capabilities.”

“SQL Anywhere Studio 7.0, formerly code-named Aspen, is slated
to ship by the end of March, said Chris Kleisath, director of
product management for Sybase’s Mobile and Embedded Computing
Division. The new release allows corporate synchronization with all
mobile devices, not just notebook PCs, Kleisath said.”

“Sybase, Emeryville, Calif., added 128-bit encryption so that
synchronization can be done more securely via the Internet and
added support for Unix and Linux. Previously, SQL Anywhere ran on
Windows NT.”
