remain that way for some time.”

“At MCI WorldCom Inc., Unix remains firmly in place for network
services. Microsoft is an important supplier, but NT is used only
in areas that are not business-critical, said John Lawyer, senior
manager of enterprise architecture at MCI WorldCom, Jackson,
Miss.”

“Microsoft’s marketing assault on carrier networks comes at a
time when it is losing ground in the enterprise arena to service
providers. It may be too soon to tell if the software giant can
recoup those losses by building a presence in carrier networks,
industry experts said. However, attitudes are relaxing when it
comes to using NT for customer support applications, such as
billing, they said.”
