“There may be a lot of people talking about Linux, but few
developers are dedicated to it. At least among those in the Windows
camp.”

“Thirty percent of North American software developers do not
have sufficient confidence in the free operating system to use it
for mission-critical applications, according to a new survey.”

“Of the 339 polled in the international study, 49 percent were
from Europe. Garvin believes that American preoccupation with
homogeneous technology explains greater interest in Linux outside
the U.S. ‘In Europe they’re more open to diverse technology,’ she
says.

“Nine companies sponsored the studies, including Microsoft, IBM
Corp., Intel Corp. and Oracle Corp.”
