“Yesterday’s news was that a version 10.1 of Adobe’s
“browser-based runtime” will be released later this year not only
for desktop platforms, but also for Windows Mobile and Palm webOS,
a fairly new Linux-based smartphone OS that affords web-standards
based development a privileged place, via native web widgets and
extensive web dev libraries and tools. Furthermore, public betas
for Android and Symbian are slated for delivery early next year,
the vendor says.“But wait, there’s more. Adobe claims that push email-equipped
phone OS marketshare leader RIM (Research in Motion) is
collaborating to bring Flash to its Blackberry OS stack. And, says
Adobe, Google has joined the Open Screen Project, news that hints
toward a bigger role for Adobe’s runtimes in Google-led OS projects
such as Android and ChromeOS (Google so far has been a vocal
proponent of alternative, and less proprietary approaches to mobile
app development, namely AJAX and other vendor-neutral industry
standards like SVG, HTML5, and so on).”
