“Linux distributions are popping up everywhere. Contrary to
popular belief, Europe and the United States aren’t the only
countries dishing out Linux distributions. Introducing
Conectiva-Linux for South America.”

“Easy to install and use, but slightly harder to maintain since
it really only uses stock utilities like Linuxconf and Red Hat’s
configuration utilities, which are a little generic and outdated.
Things like network setup and installation of the development tools
are also eliminated from the installation, so installing these
things correctly may be tricky for new users, but veteran users
will have no problem.”

“While it may have been good when it was released, Conectiva 5.0
is now relatively dated and relies too much on Red Hat’s own
innovations. An excellent distribution for beginners, but
maintenence of the system may prove to be more trouble than it’s
worth compared to distributions like Linux Mandrake. If you’re sold
on this distribution, however; I’d suggest waiting until 6.0 is
released.”
