Economic Times: Freewheeling Linux’s on a Roll

“The Linux wave is spreading across the developer community like
a forest fire. IBM’s worldwide head for developer relations, Buell
Duncan told ET that momentum of Linux, whose source code is
available for free, is very real.

“Linux, a popular operating system alternative to Microsoft, is
migrating from simple infrastructure type applications such a file
server to complex ones, while moving from servers to desktops. In
India, IBM’s programme ‘speed start your Linux applications’ has
been responsible for the development of 2000 new Linux
applications. Around 40% of the 7-lakh Indian developers have
worked on the Linux platform. Customers demand choice, hence the
huge demand for Linux, he said…”
