EETimes: Linux IA-64 development to be available on Web

“Intel Corp. plans to make Merced servers available on the
Web for Linux developers,
part of the company’s efforts to woo
the Linux faithful to the IA-64 architecture.

“Intel Senior Vice President Sean Maloney announced the service
during the morning keynote speech at Linux World, Tuesday (Aug.
10). Intel chairman Andy Grove also made an appearance to deliver a
status report on the Merced microprocessor.

“The Merced servers will be connected to popular Linux sites,
including Linux distributors Red Hat Software Inc., Caldera Systems
Inc., SuSE Inc. and TurboLinux Inc.; workstation vendor VA Linux
Systems Inc.; and at developer.intel.com.”
