Enterprise Computing: Oracle, Sun doing away with operating systems?

According to a Reuters report: “Oracle and Sun Microsystems are
set to announce Monday they will work together on a new type of
computer that does not require an operating system, analysts and
industry sources said.”

“Oracle will most likely pick Sun’s kernel, according to Giga
Information Group analyst Rob Enderle.

“‘What Oracle and Sun are doing here is cutting out Microsoft,’
he observed. ‘That would get them both excited and is reasonably
compelling.'”
