Enterprise Linux Today: Corel: Contributing to the Linux Community

Another important aspect of Corel’s Linux initiatives is
our work with the open source community. Corel values the open
source philosophy which is fundamental to the development of
Linux.
We are an active member of this community and plan to
continue our involvement in the future.”

“Corel has already gone to great lengths to demonstrate its
support for the open source community. In January 2000, we
established an open source development community Web site at
opensource.corel.com. The site is a central location where members
of the development community can access code. It also serves as a
discussion forum through the use of development mailing lists and
informs visitors about Corel’s open source projects.”

“We’ve taken great strides towards improving printing
capabilities on Linux. Corel has considerable expertise in the
development of desktop printing solutions. We’ve worked hard to
perfect the printing experience for both amateurs and professionals
using CorelDRAW and WordPerfect. We’ve leveraged that expertise to
develop a printing library which enables applications running on
Linux to easily “talk” to printers. In February 2000, we announced
that we are hosting our open source application print services
library on VA Linux Systems’ SourceForge(tm), the world’s largest
open source development center, as well as at
opensource.corel.com.”
