“Corel is pleased to announce that Derek J. Burney, its interim
president and CEO, has been appointed to the positions of president
and CEO on a permanent basis….”

“Derek has demonstrated to the board’s satisfaction that he is
well-qualified to lead Corel into an exciting and successful
future,” said Jim Baillie, chairman of Corel’s board of directors.
“He brings an outstanding level of enthusiasm and commitment to the
job and is well-respected within Corel as its leader. The board is
really impressed with Derek’s accomplishments to date, especially
how he negotiated our recently-announced alliance with Microsoft.
The board decided there was no need to conduct a widespread search
for a new president and CEO, since Derek is clearly the right
person for the job.”

“The other promotions include: Ian LeGrow, to executive
vice-president, creative products; Graham Brown, to executive
vice-president, business applications and Rene Schmidt, to
executive vice-president, Linux products.”
