“With four industry giants facing off in the roped-off,
four-corner ring we call the game industry, an unknown, masked
combatant is running full sprint into the fray. He is prepared to
swing a steel chair at any of the four muscle-bound behemoths
standing in the ring. “Who is this masked man? What does he want?
He has to be crazy to take on these four!” the crowd mumbles.”

“The masked, crazed individual is John Gildred. His steel chair
is the Indrema Home Entertainment machine. His motivation is the
electronic entertainment industry’s cash cow: the console market.
His hurdles, however, are the big four: Sony, Sega, Nintendo and
Microsoft – three of which are veterans of the business while a
fourth is well known for domination on a global scale at everything
it touches.”

“Like a PC, the Indrema will allow for Web browsing, MP3
playing, and online gaming – along with a built-in DVD player for
movies. This happens to be much like some of the other upcoming
consoles. However, where Indrema is really going to shake
things up is in the Linux gaming industry. The Indrema units will
be running a Linux OS at the base of the system (thereby pushing
developers to create titles that can run under Linux). This is a
step in the right direction for Linux game zealots.
Also, the
open source nature of Linux development opens new doors for amateur
game developers. It has been a very long time since end-users have
had as good a chance of developing for a console themselves than
they do with the Indrema system.”
