1) AbiWord gets GNOME Support

There’s now a “GNOMEized” version of AbiWord; read all about
it:

http://news.gnome.org/gnome-news/944263234/index_html

Thanks to Joaquin Cuenca Abela for doing this work, it looks
really nice.

2) GMap

A new map-browsing application, which looks pretty neat. It can
browse the map data Bruce Perens made available under the GPL some
time ago. Have a look at the screenshots:

http://academy.cas.cz/~gis/

3) Conglomerate

Simplemente, a company in Mexico City, announced a new GUI for
editing XML/SGML structured documents. The screenshots look really
sweet:

4) Galway needs hackers

Ariel Rios wrote in with a request for assistance with the
Galway web editor. It’s a pretty nice-looking application for
creating web sites, written in Scheme. Here’s his mail:

What i need is:

-Schemers willing to help with coding.
-People to write the HTML, Scheme, VRML and JScript parsers
-People to write documentation
-And most of all translators

I want to start integrating gtkhtml into it but need other
people to deal with parts of the development.

Galway is located under GNOME CVS module galway. Its current
homepage is:
http://erin.netpedia.net/galway.html

Anyone interested can contact me at: jarios@usa.net

5) Free books from Helix Code

Helix Code (Miguel and Nat’s company) is offering to purchase
copies of GTK+/GNOME Application Development for any hackers that
need one.

Helix Code:
http://www.helixcode.com/

The book:
http://developer.gnome.org/doc/GGAD/

If you’d like a copy of the book, mail Nat (nat@helixcode.com)
or track down Nat or Miguel on IRC or in person.

6) Guppi returns from the dead

Jon Trowbridge has started hacking Guppi again; see this
post:

http://www.gnome.org/mailing-lists/archives/guppi-list/1999-December/0000.shtml

For its third rewrite, Guppi is now in the ‘guppi3’ CVS module.
It’s great to see it moving along again!
