Heise Online is reporting that it’s down to Linux and Win2k for
the Bundestag.
According to the report, Windows NT is currently installed on
over 5000 machines on the desktops of delegates and assorted staff.
Windows 2000 and Linux are both candidates after Microsoft and SuSE
representatives presented their case to the commission handling the
upgrade. Evidently, Linux has been used with some success on mail
servers already.
The report also indicates that a test group will be given Linux
to evaluate before a decision is made.
German-proficient readers who care to render some of the
highlights in their own words (and more meaningfully than
“beforehand the computer always fell with the mass dispatch of
enamels,” are encouraged to post a talkback.
