operating system last week, a standards group is trying prevent the
splintering of the open-source OS like that of Unix before it.”

“A number of vendors at last week’s LinuxWorld Expo, in San
Jose, Calif., detailed plans to release Linux versions of their
software, including SAP AG, Computer Associates, Oracle, and
Sybase.”

“At the same time, a coalition of developers and ISVs are
working behind the scenes to consolidate on the Linux Standard Base
(LSB), which will outline a standard implementation of OS activity
not related to the kernel, such as file-system hierarchies and
libraries.”
