“Internet appliances are expected to proliferate, with an
increasing number of consumers adopting handheld devices such as
cellular screen phones and PalmPilot personal digital assistants
during the next three years.”

“But exactly how those devices will end up in everyone’s hands
remains to be seen. Coollogic, a young outfit founded in 1997,
believes it has the answer.”

“According to Edward Ghafari, vice president of marketing at the
company, free open source code Linux will serve as the
operating system (OS) for Internet appliances because it can be
configured to suit a variety of small devices. “We believe we can
bring Linux as a standard to the embedded system market
space
,” he said.”
