Internet Week: Open-Source Politics, And Just What Is GNU?

of the Free Software Foundation (www.fsf.org) and his endless
Crusade for the Recognition of GNU. In case you missed it, the GNU
Project was working on an open source “Unix-like system” since
roughly 1984.”

“The Linux camp needed the goodies developed by the GNU folks,
and the GNU folks needed a kernel. An obvious marriage of state,
yet not a happy one, said Stallman, who poured kerosene on a raging
flame war in the Linux developer community by insisting that
finished Linux systems should be referred to as “GNU/Linux”…”
